The Millenium Catholic Church

The  Fabric Catholic Church, or the Millenium Church lays in Romanilor Square, at no.16. The construction began in June 16, 1896, and it was inaugurated on October 13 1901. The architect was Ludwig von Ybl, contractor Josef Kremer, the altar was painted by György Vastagh, and the organ was made by the famous organ builder in Timişoara Leopold Wegenstein.

The church is built in the historicist eclectic style, having Neo-Gothic and Neo-Roman architecture elements, dominating the urban landscape in the Fabric neighborhood. Alongside the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral’s tower from the Cetate district, its 65 m tall towers mark the city silhouette, when one sees it from the surrounding suburban area.

The walls of the church are 1-3,64 m thick. The central part, sanctuary and roof are made of ciment imported from Portland. Three statues in natural size are placed above the gate: apostles Peter and Paul and in the middle Jesus bearing the cross. The church floor is made of colored pieces of stone placed on concrete. Inside the right tower Lays the chapel of St Anton of Padova.

The main dimensions are:
