Theresia Bastion and Cross-Border Multifunctional Center
The Bastion, Theresia Bastion, was originally designed as a “ravelin” (a fortification item built outside the first entrenchment of the fortress, approximately in the middle of the curtain between the two bastions, to “flank” with “flanking fire” those bastions.
It appears on plans since 1732. On the 1734 plan it appears as completely finished. Subsequently it was included in the first fortification ring as a bastion, called the Theresia Bastion.
Names and historical functions
1732 – the Provision Storehouse Ravelin (food)
1744-45 – it receives the name “Theresia Bastion” in honor of Queen Maria Theresia, the “pseudo-king”, as her enemies called her.
Architectural style
It corresponds to the type of fortifications with three fortified “rings”, characteristic of the first half and mid-eighteenth century. The fortifications prior to 1707, from the time of Vauban, did not have the outer third ring, made of the fortification elements called “covering”.
The restoration project of this centre, completed in 2010, contributed to the revival and emphasizing of this historic monument considered by specialists „The largest restoration site in South-Eastern Europe ", as a centre for tourism and cultural activities.

CROSS - BORDER MULTIFUNCTIONAL CENTER, created within HURO / 1101/ 164/ 2.1.3 occupies three panes of the bastion’s „C” body, with direct access by complete opening of the carpentry in each of the 3 spaces from the courtyard, and views towards the I.C. Bratianu square.
The space has all necessary utilities, a modern bathroom, and has an ambient lighting system appropriate for exhibitions. Heating and ventilation of the spaces are provided appropriate. It also has the advantage of being placed in a pedestrian courtyard, having an decking type outdoor terrace, and proximity to other centres and cultural objectives.
The mentioned area has the necessary facilities to accommodate the information point for the Village Museum activities and activities in the fishing village of Csongrad. The specific facilities allow to organize architecture, art and multimedia exhibitions. Specific facilities shall be provided for organizing arts and architecture workshops for children and others, both inside and in the Bastion yard.
