Organisation
The Water Administration Banat is a legal entity belonging to the National Administration „Romanian Waters", which administers almost all waters for two administrative-territorial units and is in charge of activity for the System of Water Management Timiş (located in Timişoara) as well as the System of Water Management Caraş-Severin (located in Reşiţa).
Administration
The Water Administration Banat is in charge of administration of the drainage basins of the following rivers: Aranca, Bega, Bega veche, Timiş, Bârzava, Moraviţa, Caraş, Nera, Cerna and partially the river Danube.
The total administred surface is 18.320 km2, with a total length of the hydrographic network of 6.296 km.
- 4 hydrotechnical knots (Coştei, Topolovăţ, Sânmihaiu Român, Sânmartinu Maghiar)
- 43 accumulation lakes, of which 27 lakes with nonpermanent accumulation
The Banat Hydrographical Basin is composed, from an administrative standpoint, of counties Timiş and Caraş-Severin (integrally), Arad, Gorj and Mehedinţi (partially).
Complex schemes in the Banat Hydrographical Basin
Timiş-Bega Interconnection
The complex schemes of the bega canal with the purpose to combat floods during high water periods and the excess of humidity for navigation and assuring the necessary of drinkable and industrial water for inhabitants.
Types of operations: operations for channelling and regularisation of the river flow on the sector of confluence of the silling canal Timiş-Bega-Serbian border, operations for diversion from the river Timiş to the Bega canal and viceversa, operations for enbankment, hydrotechnical knots for diversion - Coştei(on Timiş river) and Topolovăţ (on Bega canal) – with an important role in providing water and prevention of floods in the Timisoara area, hydrotechnical knots -U.H.E. Timişoara-with important role in providing drinking and industrial water to Timisoara city during medium and low water levels, hydrotechnical knots for navigation -Sânmihaiu Român and Sânmartinu Maghiar.
The operations to ameliorate the state of rivers in the interconnection area Timiş-Bega aimed to free from flooding effects the land surface of 226.000 ha.
Complex organisation of Superior Bârzava basin
The complex organisation of Superior Bârzava basin has the purpose of assuring the provision of drinking and industrial water of the Reşiţa municipality and production of hydroelectric energy.
Types of operations: accumulation lakes, derivations, aduction, coas canals, installation for production of electric energy
Accumulation points Gozna, Văliug, Secu (on Bârzava river) allow that the need for water used in Reşiţa is covered and contribute to valorification of hydroenergetic potential of the basin.
The accumulation point „Trei Ape”(when the spring of the Timiş river meet) suppliment the river flows on the Bârzava river
Hydroelectric power plants Crăinicel, Breazova and Grebla use 40% of the hydroenergetic potential of the basin
The hydrometric and hydrogeologic network included in the Banat Hydrographical basin has:
5 hydrological stations
82 hydrometrical stations
35 sections to measure river flows
67 satellite sections for expeditionary measures
54 springs for measuring the water flow
8 evaporimetric stations
636 hydrogeological drills
Hydrological stations:
5 hydrological stations: Timişoara, Lugoj. Reşiţa, Oraviţa, Băile Herculane
